Continuing Education (Schools)
How can I check a licensee’s Continuing Education record?
Search for the licensee’s record, select the appropriate license then click the "CONTINUING EDUCATION" tab to view the licensee’s CE record; hours for past renewals are not displayed. To view historical CE, click the “Record Info” tab and expand “More Details” to select “Record Information Tables” – all historical CE is listed here.
How can I verify license numbers?
Use the License Search to find the record, the license number will be included on the license record details. Follow the instructions available on the License Search page.
How do I apply to become a school offering Continuing Education (CE) only?
Begin by reviewing the Educator’s Guidebook. To obtain school and course approval, visit the Public Portal to create an account (if you don’t already have one*). You will then register as a new school and submit one course application, along with $75 fee, for review at least 45 days before the first scheduled class session. After your school and first course are approved, you may then submit more courses for review. A checklist is available here.
*If you hold a Kansas real estate license and have already created an account as a licensee, do not create another account. You will begin by logging in to Public Portal and submitting Education Provider Registration.
General (Schools)
How do I renew my school's courses?
The registration of courses approved by the commission shall expire on January 31 of each year. KREC will email you with notice to renew in the Public Portal and there is no fee. Each application to renew approval of a course received after the expiration date shall result in the withdrawal of approval and require the submission of a new application with fee.
How long must a school maintain student attendance records?
Each school shall maintain for at least three years, at the school’s business address, a record of each student who has successfully completed a course approved by the Commission. The school shall keep attendance records current and available for inspection by commission representatives upon request.
What is a School Coordinator?
As defined in K.A.R. 86-1-10, a school coordinator is an individual who serves as the primary contact for a school and is responsible for complying with the requirements in this regulation. The school coordinator is ultimately held responsible for submitting accurate and timely course completion credit on behalf of the student, reporting course schedules and changes to the Commission, and ensuring course content is accurate. The school coordinator is responsible for ensuring instructors have specialized preparation, training, and experience in the subject matter to be taught to ensure competent instruction.
Pre License (Schools)
Do I have to submit credit for Pre-License courses?
Yes. Pursuant to K.A.R. 86-1-17(c)(1), schools are required to submit course completion credit to the commission within five (5) calendar days of course completion.
How do I obtain approval to offer Pre-License Education?
If you plan to offer pre-license education, you must first contact the Kansas Board of Regents to obtain a Certificate of Approval. To begin that process, please review the Pre-License Approval section of the Educator’s Guidebook.
After obtaining a post-secondary certificate with the Kansas Board of Regents {add link to correct page on their website} for your school, instructions to register as a new school and submit a course application can be found in the Educator’s Guidebook.
If you hold a Kansas real estate license and have already created an account in ACA as a licensee or if you’ve already obtained approval as a school offering CE, do not create another account. Login to your account in the Public Portal and submit an Education Provider Registration.
How do I verify a student’s Pre-License (PL) number?
Use the License Search to find the record, if the student has applied for Pre-Licensure, their PL number will be listed with their record details. If you are unable to find a PL number, instruct the student to apply for pre-licensure and follow the steps in the pre-license checklists. Access the Salesperson Pre-License Checklist and Broker Pre-License Checklist.
Students should follow the Pre-License Checklist instructions listed in Step 1 to apply for Pre-Licensure and receive their Pre-License (PL) number. The student should provide this number to the school during course registration.
What is K.S.A 48-3406 and how does it change the application process?
Applicants who may qualify for K.S.A. 48-3406 include military service members, military spouses, applicants who reside in Kansas, or applicants who intend to reside in Kansas. An applicant who is a military service member or military spouse must have held a valid license in another state during any period in the last two years. Non-military individuals who have established or intend to establish residency in this state must hold a current valid license in another jurisdiction and the license must have been in active status for at least two years immediately preceding application. Applicants must not have past or pending disqualifying criminal records or disciplinary actions.
If an applicant meets requirements, they may be exempt from pre-license education and testing requirements. If an applicant believes they qualify for exemption pursuant to this statute, they should login to the Public Portal to submit a Pre-Licensure application. Applicants are required to submit all other application materials required within the prescribed timeline.
Reporting Requirements (Schools)
Do I have to provide course completion certificates?
Yes. Pursuant to K.A.R. 86-1-17(b)(1), schools are to issue a certificate of completion to each student who successfully completes a course approved by the commission. Each school shall use certificate forms approved by the commission. Updated Pre-License and Continuing Education course certificates were made available to all school coordinators as of April 15, 2025. Contact kreceducation@ks.gov to obtain the certificate template.

How many days do I have to submit course completion credit to KREC?
Pursuant to K.A.R. 86-1-17(c)(1), schools are required to submit course completion credit, Pre-License or Continuing Education, to the Commission within five (5) calendar days of course completion or by the licensee’s expiration date, whichever is soonest. This includes weekends, holidays, etc. If a student is allowed to finish a course any time, the school must be prepared to submit course completion data within the required timeline.
